Most of what protects your teeth happens at home. A consistent routine, carried out properly, does more than occasional intensive cleaning.
A practical routine
- Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, including before bed
- Use a soft brush and gentle, thorough strokes rather than hard scrubbing
- Clean between the teeth daily with floss or an interdental brush
- Limit how often you have sugary food and drinks, not just how much
- Rinse with water after acidic food or drinks and brush a little later
When to ask for advice
If your gums bleed while brushing, if you have persistent bad breath, or if a tooth is sensitive, it is worth having it examined rather than changing products repeatedly.
